The kids are excited. We are preparing for our trip to Taiping ( Malaysia) to spend our Christmas there. It has been a long time since our kids have seen their cousins in Malaysia.

All the gifts have been packed and clothes have been sorted. I just need to double check our stuff and put them inside our bags.

It’s officially a ‘homeschool holiday’ though it seems we’ve been on a break from homeschool for a long time since we haven’t been very regular with it. But anyways, we’ll just enjoy this holiday and sort out our schedule and be serious with homeschool once we come back.

For the meantime, Happy Holidays to ALL!!

My little girl has learned to appreciate books as early as 2 years old since we’ve been reading to her since she was still a baby. But now that she has learned to read, she and her books are just inseparable. She has become a real bookworm and has loved reading her homeschool materials.

When we went to Vietnam, I brought a couple of her books so that she has something to do during our ‘waiting times’. And true enough she enjoyed browsing and reading her books on the train and at the airport.

Here she is, seriously reading Dr. Do Little on the Train on the way to Bangkok
Our girl and her Encyclopedia.. still on the train

and she also did her maths at Suvarnabhumi Airport in Bangkok!:)

We will be going to Malaysia for a week in a few days time. Now, I’m thinking whether or not I will be bringing my girl’s homeschool materials with us. I admit that we haven’t been really regular with our homeschool for many weeks now. There just seems to be a lot of disruption and I find it difficult to build a routine with these changes. First was the flood in November, then visitors from the Philippines came, then our trip to Vietnam and now we’re going to Malaysia.

Our li’l girl is one person who needs to have a conducive place and time to study. A little bit of distraction and then her concentration breaks. Yes, she’s very interested to study but she’s also very playful.

So, to bring or not to bring our materials, that is the question. Hmmm.. Maybe I’ll just bring them with us. Who knows there will be some quiet days there in when we can have time to do a little bit of homeschool or our girl can just read her Readers.

We enrolled our li’l girl in the local Thai school last semester. We made special arrangements with the school to allow her to only attend the morning sessions since she has to do homeschool in the afternoons. The school principal was considerate enough to accept our li’l girl as a special student. We wanted her to be in Thai school so she can have Thai friends and at learn the language a bit.

On the second term, the school was closed for many days because of the flood. We also got busy trying to recover from the flood since our house and center got affected. We didn’t send her to school for a week. And the week she was supposed to go to school, her cousins from the Philippines came. It was a pity to send her to school while her cousins whom she hadn’t seen for a long time, were at home. So, we decided not to let her go to school this term since we also had travel plans to Vietnam and Malaysia. By the time we come back, it’s only a month away from Summer break.

So, that explains why our girl hasn’t been in school this term. But we will surely send her to school next term. We still find that being in Thai school can help here in her social skills and Thai Language.

This photo was taken during our ‘Box Day’ . The day we received our homeschool materials. It actually took us a long time to receive them since we gave a Malaysian address. We just moved in our house in Thailand and that time and we were not so sure of our exact postal address. So, to make things simpler, we used our address in Malaysia.

Anyways, during our box day a few months ago. Our little girl was really excited to see so much of books and science materials. She immediately picked up a book and asked me if we could start homeschooling the day after. LOL!

It took me a few days to get familiarized and organize the materials. That time we also had house guests so, we waited for them to go back before we started our homeschool.
