Our Homeschool Room

I think we haven’t recovered from our long ‘vacation’ yet. It has been our second week of homeschool but it seems we’ve had more off days this week than school days. Oh, forgive me but the teacher bas been quite lazy busy. I think, I’m the one who hasn’t recovered from the being on vacation. I have to set myself into work or homeschool mode as soon as possible , because I might end up rushing things again as I did last year. But on the other hand, I’m not so worried of our ‘delay’ because even if I’m not homeschooling my daughter, she’s... 

I just watched a movie last night entitled Trust. It was about a 14 year old girl who was sexually assaulted by a man whom she befriended in the internet. Of course the girl didn’t check http://www.easybackgroundchecks.com to see whether the ‘boy’ was telling the truth regarding his life but with her naivety she simply trusted him. The movie was really kinda scary in a way that it presented the real danger of children being exposed to the internet without parental control. Sometimes, we parents think that it’s okay for our kids to go along with the times and for them... 

I think my daughter is a speed reader. I just couldn’t believe that she has finished 3 Narnia Books in 3 days! And this is not the condensed version but the original writings of C.S Lewis. As always, I check by asking her a summary of the books that she has read and she couldn’t just give me a short summary but she went on and on, narrating the book from start to finish until I have to give her a short break from talking. So, even if we’re having a short break from homeschooling since we’re out of town, but at least my daughter is still learning a of vocabs and reading... 

This is a video of my daughter taken more than 3 years ago, dancing a Brazilian dance when she was in school ( in the Philippines for a few months). Being in a ‘real’ school has really been a great experience for her as she gained a lot of friends and had more exposure to perform on the stage with a lot of audience. The school that she studied has a lot of stage performances where they do dances or playing of musical instruments from MF cajon drum to maracas.  

My daughter took an interest in photography after meeting a friend with a camera and stayed with us in the city for awhile. To my daughter’s delight, our friend freely allows her to use her SLR . I , on the other hand, used to warn her to be very careful as SLRs are not inexpensive. Photo taken by Tricia And now with our new camera, she constantly begs to use it and I’m not that eager to let her use it as our friend did. But once I learn the basics of photography and using our new camera, I should teach her how to use it properly and train her at this age. Who knows, she might be...
