We enrolled our li’l girl in the local Thai school last semester. We made special arrangements with the school to allow her to only attend the morning sessions since she has to do homeschool in the afternoons. The school principal was considerate enough to accept our li’l girl as a special student. We wanted her to be in Thai school so she can have Thai friends and at learn the language a bit.
On the second term, the school was closed for many days because of the flood. We also got busy trying to recover from the flood since our house and center got affected. We didn’t send her to school for a week. And the week she was supposed to go to school, her cousins from the Philippines came. It was a pity to send her to school while her cousins whom she hadn’t seen for a long time, were at home. So, we decided not to let her go to school this term since we also had travel plans to Vietnam and Malaysia. By the time we come back, it’s only a month away from Summer break.
So, that explains why our girl hasn’t been in school this term. But we will surely send her to school next term. We still find that being in Thai school can help here in her social skills and Thai Language.

This photo was taken during our ‘Box Day’ . The day we received our homeschool materials. It actually took us a long time to receive them since we gave a Malaysian address. We just moved in our house in Thailand and that time and we were not so sure of our exact postal address. So, to make things simpler, we used our address in Malaysia.
Anyways, during our box day a few months ago. Our little girl was really excited to see so much of books and science materials. She immediately picked up a book and asked me if we could start homeschooling the day after. LOL!
It took me a few days to get familiarized and organize the materials. That time we also had house guests so, we waited for them to go back before we started our homeschool.

Met my homeschoolers. Tricia is turning 7 next year and she’s currently doing Sonlight’s Core K program. While my Lyle, li’l boy is still 3 years old, I’m planning to start Sonlight’s 3/4 program for him next year coupled with the reading program called Learn How to Read In 100 Easy Lessons.
I still don’t know how I can homeschool both of them together next year as they are in different levels. But I’m planning to teach them every other day so I can concentrate on a child each day.

Homeschooling my kids would have never crossed my mind if we were staying in our homecountry. I could have easily enroll them in a traditional school and relaxed. But then, because of our work, we have to be based in a country that is not our own. And the country that we are staying now has their own language and scripts and would be difficult for us to make it as the primary education for our kids. We could easily send our kids to an international school but that is if we have Hundred thousands of Baht to spare for education per child , per year!
So, that left us one last option and that is Homeschool. I was reluctant at first to homeschool my kids. I was clueless on what to do but since I didn’t have a choice, I still have to do it. So, I joined forums and searched for materials that will ease my ‘reluctance’ and thank God for letting me find a good homeschool forum and a program that suits me and kids. ( I will share about my homeschool program in another post).
Fast forward four months into our homeschool journey and my daughter is still so excited to do homeschool. I’m surprised that I myself, am enjoying the experience too.
Now, I’m proud to say that I’m not a reluctant homeschooler Mom anymore.
